A powerfully refined ride. – When building an engine, it is rare to start with a blank canvas. But as the CT6 was a brand new vehicle on a brand new platform, there were no precedents to follow. And since the CT6 body is larger than any current Cadillac sedan, the engineers enjoyed a certain level of freedom and creative control, while staying true to three main objectives. A true prestige sedan would need the following: a high performance output, a generous fuel economy, and above all, power that transitioned seamlessly from the engine to the driver.
With the 3.0L V6 TwinTurbo engine, the engineers created the most advanced Cadillac powertrain system to date. Powered by two powerful, low-inertia turbochargers, it creates a broad torque curve that conveys responsive, sustained power to the driver. And with 417 hp and 555 Nm of torque, it is one of the densest engines available today.
But performance is about more than just raw power. The engineers needed to translate the strength under the hood to the hands and feet of the driver. To that end, the CT6 comes equipped with three driving modes: Tour, Sport and Snow/Ice. Tour mode provides a supple ride suitable for the every day. Sport mode utilizes aggressive damping for a more exciting driving feel, while Snow mode can be engaged for safer handling in inclement weather.
Standard All-Wheel Drive plays a large role in the performance of the CT6 as well, monitoring the road and providing more power and torque to the wheels that need it most. The CT6 engineers perfected the system in the snowfields of Canada, optimizing for a smooth experience that does not require any manual input from the driver. To ensure that the CT6 is as smart as it is powerful, every engine comes equipped with Active Fuel Management, unprecedented in any Twin Turbocharged engine. The system automatically shuts down two of the engines’ cylinders when driving conditions require less fuel. When driving conditions become more challenging, the system automatically turns them back on again. The process happens seamlessly, without any interruptions in the driving experience.
